After 6 years of posting videos (and meeting the people that watch them), I felt it was time to start expanding this channel beyond its Youtube roots.
Certainly the channel is very important and I’ll continue to push content to it as well as use it to distribute that content. However, while Youtube does a fine job of providing a platform to share video content, it was becoming hard for me to meet the demands of my viewers strictly through the channel. Here I can provide the following:
A means to contact me directly (seth@firstpersonbeta.com)
An avenue to search through the archived video footage without searching the entirety of Youtube. It’s also easier for me to organize the footage through this site so it’s easier to find particular climbs and related climbs (other pitches or other climbs in a region).
News and blog info can have its own platform.
The Manifest! Here you can see what climbs I have footage of and roughly when I got that footage.
I also needed a place to consolidate the “brand” that is First Person Beta beyond the YouTube channel.
I have plenty of plans for this site and more then enough grandiose climbing goals, enough work to occupy my winter downtime. Some of those plans are going to take a while to see to completion (I have over 130 videos on the channel that I need to archive) but at this point there’s no reason to get started with the public face of it.
